This poor kneeler had seen better days. When I first saw it, sitting forlorn in my parish choir room, it looked sad and cold. Like it needed a blanket of velvet to bring it back to life. It belonged to my choir director, and I asked her if she'd like me to reupholster it. God love her, she's so laid back, she gave me all the time I wanted, needed, to set up my workspace and give this kneeler a new life. First, I stripped it and began to put it back together. I carved a new cross and finial for the center, reattached the broken leg, and cut a new cross for the side. I sanded, filled, sanded, and stained. Then I gave it the cushion and velvet it once had, and had long ago turned to dust and strands. I finished it on Christmas Eve, and was quite proud of my work. I know that she and her family will keep me in their prayers when they use it, and I hope to create many more for others to raise their hearts and minds to God.
